It's a given that Tevinter is built on slavery after all, it'd be helpful to have at least some reference to what they'd sell for for games set in the area (or indeed in the earlier days when the Imperium controlled basically everything).

Ah well, good design :P Lynx Firenzehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13649091998546614674noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6812917537337180752.post-25653314321092805712017-01-28T14:21:11.359-08:002017-01-28T14:21:11.359-08:00Rivain: You have two fish. I'd use the former), and then at the end of the session you'd roll to see if the skill rating increased. Like you, I don't have players that would abuse that mechanic, so it's not an issue for me.

With Dragon Age, though, I'd be fine leveling up the PCs at certain parts of the adventure, and I don't think my players would take issue with that. With D&D, though, and its focus on monster-fighting and treasure-taking, I stick with the points system.Devin Parkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00944849659698291143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6812917537337180752.post-53519654326006973232017-01-06T17:12:17.416-08:002017-01-06T17:12:17.416-08:00I have tried both systems in my Games at different...I have tried both systems in my Games at different times. At one point I had my Adventures so bulked out it got insane to run even a single evenings play. Every Encounter I had a grid of graph paper marked with every players name and all the Skills they had so that any time they used one I could make a mark to see where they were going with their potential. I would tally everything up at the end of an evening and advance it to the next section of Gameplay and continue. It worked very well for my Group until one of them happened to notice what I was doing.

Then I began to see Players expressly finding ways to shoehorn a certain Skill or Ability in to a Session that really had no proper reason to be there. It was not long before I had to alter the entire system to keep them from abusing it (I did punish those that obviously transgressed of course, but it was disheartening to have it happen). That method worked for almost a year and while it was intense for me to deal with I did like it.

Now, I use a combination of both systems very loosely. Traditional Experience points are awarded for Landmark Achievements Only. Killing a group of Orcs, while useful, is not getting you any Points. Liberating the Town of the Orc menace after much time and effort? That gets you a sum of Exp. During the Adventure if a Character finds a way to use an Ability in a unique and interesting way that merits an improvement I will take note of it and if I see a trend in that manner it may result in a Skill Advancement rather than an Exp reward.

In this way my Players tend not to level very quickly in the traditional sense but they often end up with Skills and Abilities that outstrip the usual confines of what their actual Level indicates they should have. It has worked very well for my groups, though I will admit that explaining it to a New Player is tough.. Since folks are developing settings for Pathfinder, I was given the opportunity to revamp drow as I liked, and I've had a lot of fun doing it. I've presented a range for folks to choose from (or not, as they wish for their games) and have focused on the more evil tribes thus far, but I'm not done, so these are only a few. One tribe has an affinity for vermin; the rest don't. The Xelusine are anything but angry. The people of Thedas don't have to understand these groups, just as they don't understand the Qunari. As always, I try to focus on providing options, not giving mandates. Since someone requested drow for DA, this is what I've got as a start. =)Kismet Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11228340626972801303noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6812917537337180752.post-17679775201173329072016-12-27T18:20:43.148-08:002016-12-27T18:20:43.148-08:00In D&D, what are Drow without Lolth? It's ...In D&D, what are Drow without Lolth? It's like making Dwarves without Moradin or Orcs without Gruumsh. A race of sentient humaniods aren't all necessarily scary rapist stealth murderers who truck with darkness most foul; something has to make them that way and even then you will have dissent unless they are all killed (think Githyanki and Githzerai). Dark skin, as humans know it, is pigmentation. Being black doesn't make you evil but racism will always try to make it so. Thankfully, you don't have to! Now cause some elements in dragon age are sick, it might makes sense they throw their lot with demons if the demons give them secrets first. Otherwise, you either make demon hunting ranger types or crazy diabolist types who press demons into their service through spell and steel. Otherwise, they could be beautiful people with a natural magic and affinity with the fade they discovered in the absence of light, giving them a guardian role. Would the people of Thedas understand any of these groups? Of course not; they hardly understand the Qunari. My point is they don't need to be angry black women with spider decorations in their houses anymore now that they would be in Dragon Age.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6812917537337180752.post-873609732058060292016-12-20T20:34:20.242-08:002016-12-20T20:34:20.242-08:00I played Origins, and a goodly chunk of DA2 before...I played Origins, and a goodly chunk of DA2 before I put it down in favour of other things. I regret not picking it back up because when I finally DID return to it I had no idea what I was doing so I never finished.

Dragon Age is often lumped in with the Elder Scrolls Games when it comes to Game Type and I feel that is a slight against Dragon Age. Where The Elder Scrolls games are more 'world immersive' in my opinion they come up lacking in the Heroic Action that Dragon Age manages quite well.

I did not like the Combat Changes that were made between Origins and DA2 but only because I literally finished Origins and picked up DA2 hardly 48 hours later. After a few fumbles I quickly picked up the new style and ran with it.

As I mostly will be found playing games with a Co-op or Group aspect to them I was only warned off of DA2 because my friends that I game with Online knew from past experience that they were about to lose me for weeks if not Months were I to dive in to DA2. Which they did, I was about 2 weeks playing DA2 before I stopped for several Months.

Currently I am trying to wrap my head around Skyrim. Regrettably I feel that my days playing games like WoW have forever killed my ability to take joy in learning the History of a World and its peoples. Perhaps if I keep at it with Skyrim I wll regain some of that former skill!
Hexeterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17733225218907115111noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6812917537337180752.post-49187941573742599682016-12-12T21:07:47.975-08:002016-12-12T21:07:47.975-08:00I haven't read all of your posts, but I found ...I haven't read all of your posts, but I found the commentary on your first play session quite interesting. Things just didn't seem to flow for me. And who's idea was it to put all of the Talents and Spells in alphabetical order?
